How and when did you start working for Oxden Floors?
After a chat over Sunday lunch with my father, (who was in need of some help with the company at the time) I decided to have a change of career and began my term in May 2000.
If you weren’t MD of the successful Flooring Contractor Oxden Floors, what do you think you would be doing now?
I previously worked as a PQS, so no doubt Quantity Surveying of some description.
What are the main changes you have seen in the flooring industry over recent years?
Tighter timescales to complete the works on site
What are the current and future business priorities for Oxden Floors?
To maintain our current level of turnover / profit margins. We are currently running at max output with our resource levels and have no desire deviate from this at present
What are the challenges within the market at present?
Timescales for returning tenders as well as the installation programmes.
What do you look for when you recruit someone?
Drive and enthusiasm
What is your greatest achievement to date?
Running a half marathon having weighed in at 18 stone and previously not done any running 10 weeks before race day – 2hrs 35mins
Who is or has been a role model to you?
Got to be the old man ! I’m slowly getting a bigger belly and almost can drink as much before falling over
How do you relax?
I don’t often have much down time, but with a nice glass of red wine and some peace and quiet
Where is your favourite place?
The countryside either Cotwolds or Cornwall
Wine or Beer / Tea or Coffee?
Red wine and black coffee
What film, book, play or album has impressed you recently?
I enjoyed hacksaw ridge and do like true stories or autobiographies
What sports, if any are you interested in?
F1, Golf and football
What is your motto in life?
Do it nice or do it twice !
